New year, new Mercurial concept

The year doesn't start off big- it starts off quiet.

On a spiritual level, last year was the year of steady Santa Muerte veneration. I entered no contracts, and made pleas, but I attended my altar and maintained her image. This year, however, introduces an older energetic archetype. She makes an unexpected entrance just days before the new year to gently tell me: this year will be her year.

Hello, Medusa

While a Saturnial Santa Muerte was about ancestral reconnection, karma, and pulling from the dark as we reincorporate weaknesses into strengths.. Medusa is to be the Mercurial healing plea for peace within insanity and peace within pain.

It is far too common of us to simplify Medusa's personification into a box fitted around justice, because the reality is that Medusa's story never included justice. Rather, she has historically embodied the outrage of injustice. To be true to her story is to also put your eyes on Athena's condemnation of Medusa's suffering. To really see Medusa, is to see a woman made into a pariah by her own community in her greatest moment of need.

If we only advise each other to use Medusa as an emblem of rage, do we contribute to immortalizing a victim's pain as perceived under social conditioning from an outside lense?

Can we instead personify the myth by inviting her energy to help us heal within the damning moments of silence after trauma?
